This Sidra lot was grown and produced by Galo Fernando Morales Flores, his wife, and their extended family on their lush, tropical, competition winning, 350-hectare "marvelous paradise" of a farm in Pichincha. Pichincha is a volcano-rich province in the northern Ecuador. The farm has been in Galo's family for more than 80 years. His grandparents were its first owners. They passed it onto their children, and now Galo and his four brothers oversee operations. Galo would work alongside his mother more than 20 years ago. He went off to work professionally in the coffee sector before returning back home to farming.

Sidra is a coveted varietal with high cup quality potential and somewhat unknown origins. It is believed to have originated in the Pichincha province of Ecuador (where this lot is from). Some claim Sidra along with Typica Mejorada were created through an effort of Nestlé's where they were developing hybrids using Ethiopian landrace and Bourbon varieties. Some genetic testing has found that it is similar to Ethiopian landrace varietals. Associated cup attributes are super sweet, floral, and fruited.

This Sidra lot from Cruz Loma is a beautiful expression of this special varietal and no doubt the result of care, expertise, and amazing terroir. The cup is stellar. It is clean, expressive, juicy, and super sweet with creamy body and notes like pineapple & honey, passion fruit curd, pandan, green apple, and sweet lime.
