According to coffee lore, Kaldi, an Ethiopian goatherd, along with his goats discovered coffee around 850 AD. One day Kaldi noticed his goats acting strange. The usually mellow goats were energized, prancing and jumping about. He also noticed that they were eating the red berries of an unfamiliar plant. Curious, Kaldi tried some of the berries and he himself became energized. He ran into a monk who threw some of these berries in a fire, and that is the story of how coffee was supposedly discovered.
