This lot comes from Finca Buenos Aires near the town Ocotol in Nicaragua’s Nueva Segovia Department. Nueva Segovia is a highland area with steep hills and plateaus replete with large rivers. It is also home to the Chorotegas and Nahuas indigenous populations.

Maracaturra is a large bean varietal with exceptional cup quality. It is a cross between Caturra and Maragogype (elephant bean) varietals. Initial cultivar selections were made the Nicaraguan Institute of Agriculture Technology in 1976, but were never completed due to the Sandinista resolution. Subsequent selections were made by private producers in Central America.
